VIRGINIA WILCOX AHRENS

ANDOVER-Virginia Wilcox Ahrens, 79, passed away Sunday (July 23, 2006) at home following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Ahrens was born on Jan. 24, 1927 in Hornell to Donald R. and Alice Kaple Wilcox. She was a 1945 graduate of Hornell High School. On Oct. 26, 1946, she married John Ahrens, who survives.

Virginia Wilcox AhrensVirginia worked for New York Telephone from 1945 until 1954 when she chose to devote her time and loving attentions to her family.

In addition to her husband, Virginia is survived by her son, John K. (Diana) Ahrens of West Henrietta; four grandchildren, Amanda Ahrens, John K. Ahrens II, and Susan Ahrens, all of West Henrietta and Karen Ahrens of Avon; one great-grandson, Alex Ahrens; and several nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother Donald Richard Wilcox.

Virginia’s favorite pastime was reading mystery novels. She was a collector enjoying birds, bells, hand-crafted eggs, teacups and particularly the stuffed animals given to her by her grandchildren.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Andover. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at
11 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church, Andover with the Rev. Vincent Becker as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
