In Memoriam.

Mrs. Eliza Diffin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert O’Brien, was born at Sennett, NY, Feb 20, 1817, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Benjamin Cole, June 7, 1891, in the 75th year of her age.  She was married Feb. 6, 1840, to Jas. Diffin, by whom she had nine children.  She lost a little daughter four years of age in 1849, her husband Feb 5, 1880, and another daughter, Mrs. E.H. Chase, Dec. 19, 1882.  She leaves one brother, Robert Diffin of Ithaca, NY, and seven children to cherish the kind words and devoted services of sister and mother.  She has lived at Jordan, Rochester and Ithaca, NY and since Oct. 1849 at Andover.  She was baptized and married by Rev. Henry Davis, pastor of the Baptist church at Jordan, and her funeral took place from the Baptist church of this place on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. L.C. Davis officiating.  The remains were buried in the Lever cemetery.

Mrs. Diffin had been a sufferer for twenty years, and the cause of her death was “grip in case of chronic bronchitis.”  She closed with Christ fifty-one years ago and trusted in His sustaining power through all her trials.  She has been a worthy member of the Baptist church of this place, and in her death another aged member has been gathered to her eternal reward.  May those who follow after be true to the Lord, Whom she loved and served, realizing that “Eye hath not seen, or ear heard, neither hath entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him, but God hath revealed them unto us by his spirit.”
