Petrolia Resident is Taken by Death

Otis Gowdy, 84 years old, of Petrolia died in his home there at 1:20 PM yesterday after a weeks illness.  He had been in declining health for some time.  Death was caused by general breakdown. For 50 years Mr. Gowdy had been a resident of Petrolia.  He was born December 22, 1845, in Wellsville the son of Roswell N. and Lucinda Voorhees Gowdy.  He was a retired farmer by occupation. On April 29, 1876, he was married to Emma E. Barnes, who survives him, together with three sons, Clayton and Burr of Petrolia and Ward of Dansville.  One sister Mrs. W. T. Grossman of Muncie, In; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Mr. Gowdy was a charter member of Petrolia Grange and was for years active in the Grange organization.

Funeral services will take place Wednesday at 2:30 PM in the late home, with burial in Woodlawn cemetery here. The Rev. J. G. York will officiate.
