John J. Jordan who came to Allegany County died of paralysis September 18 at West Clarksville aged 86 years. He died at home of his son, Eugene C. Jordan in West Clarksville at 6:10 o'clock, Monday, September 18. Mr. Jordan was born at Cherry Valley, Otsego Co., NY 12/29/1825; five years later he came with his parents, Jacob Jordan and Phebe Mulford Jordan, to what is known as Jordan Hill. In 1850, he purchased 170 acres of land from government along West Clarksville Road. Twice married. First wife was Almira M. Davie of Bolivar who died 10/11/1873. He had four children: Lafayette R. of Black Creek; Cassius M. Jordan, E.C. Jordan and Mrs. Marion H. Bartoo of West Clarksville. In 1880 he married Lucretia Olmstead of Belmont who died 8/31/1902. He was a member of U.B. Church of Obi; having joined in 1869. He is last of six children, 4 sons and two daughters.
