The Canaseraga Union School and its Principal

Twenty minutes will take one from Hornellsville to the pretty little village of Canaseraga, N.Y., where, overlooking both town and valley, is a fine brick building known as the Union School.  The Hon. William M. White of Ossian gave the grounds and $1,000 to the district and the cost of the building was $7,000.  A board of education has the control of the school matters of the town and a principal and three assistants are employed.

Prof. M. L. Spooner graduated from Syracuse University in 1876.  He has taught for nine years and his work has been attended with uniform success.  Since his management of the school the regents’ examination has shown a marked advancement and two courses, academic and classical, have been added to the high school departments.  Several students who are in attendance are preparing for college.
