The Cuba Daily Review, after bright existence of over two years, calmly closed its eyes in death on Saturday and has gone where many another gem in journalism beckoned it. It was the result of an “unequal match” - attempting to maintain another newspaper in a field already more than occupied. There have been thousands of similar victims, and “still,” beyond the shadow of a doubt, “there’s more to follow.” The Review was the brightest little daily newspaper we ever go acquainted with. It was keen and clever, crisp and chatty. It’s publisher, Mr. R. W. Burnett, proved himself an able condenser and an adroit editor. Boy though be in, his promise is indeed bright and in some fairer field - there’s no use in trying to support a newspaper in a graveyard - we trust he may reap the recognition and reward he has so well earned.
The Wellsville Daily Reporter along survives. It was the first daily ever established in this county, and yet lives to love its enemies, etc., according to the (Wellsville Baptist) christian code. It may be the survival of the strongest rather than of the fittest, but be that as it may, it lingers still, and is liable to for some time to come.
