Wellsville's Madison St. Bridge Nears Completion (1900)

WORK ON THE NEW BRIDGE

The Main Girders were Placed in Position Today.
At the rapid rate the construction work is being pushed on the Madison street railroad bridge, it will now [not?] be many days before the residents living in that section will be able to reach their house without traveling out of their way.

This morning soon after Erie train had passed, one of the big iron girders weighing four and one half tons was pulled out on a flat car from the switch and in exactly 28 minutes was hauled up by means of ropes and tackle blocks and placed in position. This afternoon the other heavy girder was placed in position. This afternoon the other heavy girder was placed in position and the remainder of the work will be completed in a comparatively short time. The placing of the heavy irons was watched by a large number of interested spectators especially those who are anxious to see the bridge completed.
