Jersey Hill Cemetery

Jersey Hill Cemetery, Town of Birdsall, Allegany County, NY

The Jersey Hill Catholic Cemetery is located on Jersey Hill, about 1 mile south of Hiltonville Road.  Jersey Hill Road is a dirt road, not kept clean in winter.  The cemetery was once associated with St Mary's Church, but the church is long gone (see related story) and the cemetery is left untended.  The beautiful canopy of pine trees that shades the cemetery is also destroying it.  Tree roots have uprooted many stones, and much of the cemetery lies in very swampy ground.  The following list of interments was taken from two sources, both found in the Allegany County Historians office:  A recording by Janis Stewart Hanks dated April 2001 and a recording by the Historians Office Summer Intern Program in the 1980's.
