IDA MAE BLACK

WELLSVILLE -- Ida Mae Black, 79, of 25 South Brooklyn Avenue died Sunday (May 4, 2003) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born March 30, 1924, in Wellsville, a daughter of Garfield Black and Myrtle (Hull) Black.

Ida Mae was a 1942 graduate of Wellsville High School and during World War II she was employed by the Curtis Aircraft company in Buffalo. She was a former employee of the Sinclair Refinery, in Wellsville, and in 1952 she moved to California where she was employed by Encyclopedia Britannica. She later was an Administrative Assistant for Hycon Manufacturing Company in Pasadena, CA. She returned to Wellsville to care for her mother and was employed at Dresser-Rand Corp. in Wellsville, as a secretary in the Engineering Department.   She retired in 1986.

She was a member of the Christian Temple Church, in Wellsville, and enjoyed music, reading, antiques and watching professional tennis.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Garfield H. Black Jr., and Nathaniel H. "Nate" Black.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., in Wellsville, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Reverend Anna Shirey will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.

Memorials may be made to the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps or to the Jones Memorial Hospital Memorial Fund.
