Bernard Brady

The death of Bernard Brady, Belmont's oldest resident and the oldest man in this vicinity, occurred Saturday night at nine o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Greenan on Trianna street, where he has always lived. Mr. Brady had been in poor health for about ten months, the latter part of which he had been confined to his bed the most of the time. His death was due to old age.

Mr. Brady was born in County Cavon, Ireland on March 25th, over a hundred years ago, but the exact year is not known. When quite a young man, Mr. Brady was married in Ireland, and with his wife came to Canada, where they lived for a few years, moving from there to Scottsville, N.Y. and about sixty five years ago, he came with his family to Belmont, where he has spent the rest of his life.

Mr. Brady was always of a quiet, unassuming disposition, always had a kind word for everyone, and had a large circle of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Brady had four children, two of whom, James Brady of Madrid, Missouri and Mrs. Charles Greenan of Belmont, survive. The other two were Mrs. Katherine McCormick of Hammondsport who died nine years ago and Mrs. Margaret Hefferan of Greenwood who died in 1883. Beside the surviving son and daughter, there are six grandchildren, Mrs. Joseph McCormick of Hornell, William Greenan of Belmont, Misses Harriet and Anna McCormick, Mrs. M. H. McCormack and Arthur McCormick of Buffalo and six great grandchildren, Julia and Charles McCormick, children of Mrs. Joseph McCormick of Hornell and the four children of Mr. and Mrs. M H McCormick of Buffalo.

Rev. J. E. Kelly celebrated Requiem high mass at the funeral services at St. Mary's Church Monday morning at 10 o'clock and the interment was made in St. Joseph Cemetery exile by the side of Mrs. Brady.

Among the relatives from out of town who attended the funeral here were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McCormick and children, Julia and Charles of Parnell, Misses Harriet and Anna McCormick and Arthur McCormick of Buffalo.
