Mrs. Polly Reynolds Bartlett
An Aged, Respected And Christian Woman Passed To Rest
Mrs. Polly Reynolds Bartlett died at her home on Washington street last Sunday morning at the age of 87 years.
Mrs. Bartlett was born April 24th, 1817 and was married to Bela Bartlett on January 23, 1849. She was the tenth of a family of twelve children of Mr. and Mrs. [Peter?] Reynolds. Her husband died in February 1879, and after his death she followed his business which was that of an undertaker, in connection with her son, J. W. Bartlett, under the firm name of P. Bartlett & Son, until a few years ago. She was one of the few pensioners left of the War of 1812, in which service Mr. Bartlett enlisted when twelve years old. About a week ago she had a fall and remained unconscious to the time of her death.
Mrs. Bartlett was one of those good, motherly women, who always had a good word for every person and everyone was her friend. She was a great lover of children and they all knew her as Grandma Bartlett. She could mingle in a child's thoughts and rejoice with them in their childish pleasures and sympathize with them in their sorrows, and they all realized that in Grandma they had a faithful friend.
Mrs. Bartlett iis survived by one son and two daughters, Oliver Bartlett of Sacramento, Cal., Miss Maria Bartlett of Naple City, Cal. and Mrs. George L. Tucker of Belmont. She also had five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and one nephew and three nieces, Charles Gibbs and Mrs. Eugene Hayward of Battle Creek Mich., Mrs. Carolina Crosby of Iowa and Mrs. Louise Carney of Hornellsville.
The funeral was held at the home on Monday at four o'clock. Rev. Fred Berry officiating and the interment was made at the family plot at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Among those present at the funeral from out of town were Miss Sarah Lyons of Jamestown, R. J. Tucker of Buffalo, James Davis of Wellsville, Mrs. Carrie Davis and daughter, Nina, of Angelica and O. S. Norton and daughter, Miss Blanche of Allentown.
