William R. "Billy" Fagan

OLEAN -- William R. Fagan, 90, of 250 East Riverside Drive, Olean, passed away Thursday (May 1, 2003) at home.

Born February 2, 1913 in Wellsville, he was a son of Peter and Gertrude (Rauber) Fagan. He was a 1931 graduate of Salamanca High School. He received a B.B.A. from St. Bonaventure in 1936 and in 1940 received his Jurist Doctorate of Law from Notre Dame University. Mr. Fagan served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from July 31, 1942 to February 12, 1946.

He lived in the same house for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer for many years playing in Franklinville, Elk Dale in Great Valley and was a former member of Bartlett Country Club. Mr. Fagan was a devout Christian and philanthropist giving to many religious and Roman Catholic child care agencies.

Surviving are seven cousins, Helen (Lorne) LeBere of Pontvedra Beach, FL., Frances Baham of Fairport, Dave Fagan of Scio, John (Sandy) Fagan of Concord, N.C., Brenda Fagan, Mary Fagan and Suzanne Fagan all of Wellsville.

Friends will be received Tuesday in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 East State Street, Olean from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at which time a Prayer Service will be held followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Angels Church. The Reverend Gregory J. Dobson, Pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church will celebrate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wellsville.

Memorials may be made to a child care agency of the donor's choice.
