Karl R. Gallmann,
Belfast Figure;
Services Friday

BELFAST – Karl R. Gallmann, 71, prominent Belfast businessman, died Tuesday evening (Oct. 22) after being stricken in his home at 9 W. Hughes St. He formerly served as clerk of the Town of Belfast.

A native of the Town of Allen, he was born March 10, 1897, son of William and Emma Behrens Gallmann. He was married first to Katherine Klein, who preceded him in death, and later to Dorothy Guilford, who survives.

Mr. Gallmann was engaged in the hardware business. He operated Gallmann Brothers, Inc., here with his brother, Clyde Gallmann of Belfast, and his nephew, Paul Gallmann of Angelica.

Active in civic affairs, Mr. Gallmann was a member of the Belfast Area Betterment Association, served as treasurer of the Riverside Cemetery Association here, and was a past president of the Belfast Fire Department.

He was a member and trustee of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Basswood Hill, and a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League.

Surviving in addition to his widow and his brother in Belfast are three other brothers, Erwin of Fillmore, Walter of Angelica and Otto of Friendship; and three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Hilda) Ohlinger of Brockport, and Miss Clara Gallmann and Mrs. Arthur (Martha) Behm, both of Buffalo.

Friends may call at the Wolcott Funeral Home, Belfast, after 7 p.m. today and all day Thursday. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Basswood Hill, by the Rev. Elmer W. Krentz of Wellsville, pastor.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery here.
