-----------

Death of George S. Jones

George S. Jones, Esq., of Belmont, died at Buffalo, where had gone for medical treatment on Thursday last. He had been in poor health for a number of years, and for the past few months but little hope had been entertained of his recovery. Mr. Jones was a prominent and respected member of the Allegany County Bar and stood high in the legal profession. He studied law with Hon. David Rumsey, of Bath, and at the close of his studies became a partner of Mr. Rumsey.

In 1869, he formed a law partnership with Hon. Wilkes Angel, at Belmont, which continued until 1879. A short time after dissolution of his partnership with Mr. Angel he went to Elmira, where he became a partner of Chas. A. Dolson in the law business. On account of failing health he returned to Belmont, where he has since resided. Mr. Jones was a band of firm convictions, and adherence to what he deemed right.

He was one of the leading Democratic politicians of Allegany County, and was once candidate for District Attorney. In all his business and social relations he was a man of unquestioned honor and integrity, and his death causes regret to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. He was about 52 years of age and leaves a wife and two daughters.
