LUCY STILLMAN JONES

DEATH OF AN AGED LADY

Mrs. Lucy Jones passed from death unto life on Saturday afternoon, May 20th, after an illness of nearly twelve weeks.  She was the mother of Henry L. and David S. Jones of this village, also of Mrs. Harriet Moe of Tompkins Co.  Mrs. Jones was born in Berlin, NY Oct 20th, 1804 and was the daughter of Dea. George Stillman.  In 1814 she came to Alfred with her parents, and while still a child, gave her heart to the Savior and was baptized into the fellowship of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Alfred.

She came to Wellsville with her husband (Lewis) in 1850 and has been a resident of this place since that time, making her home during the six years of her widowhood with her son, Henry L. where she died.

Though for many years of her eventful life separated from the church of her choice, she loved it and the Savior who redeemed her, and in her last illness gave evidence, by her wondrous patience and sweetness, of the grace that sustained her.

“Her children rise up and call her blessed.”

The funeral will be held at the residence of Henry L. Jones tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock.

Mrs. Jones is interred at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville
