Angelica -- Bus Maxson, 101, of 15 Mechanic Street passed away Wednesday (April 23, 2003) at the Mater Dei Home in Scio.

He was born August 21, 1901, in Angelica, a son of Barton and Jessie Barnes Maxson. On June 22, 1927 in Birdsall, he married the former Sarah Bess (Dickson) Maxson who predeceased him on March 6, 1991.

Bus was a life long resident of Angelica area. He owned and operated a Barber and Beauty shop next to the post office from 1924 to 1971. He was a member of the Angelica United Methodist Church, a member and past Master of Melrose Masonic Lodge #818 F&AM and received his 80 year membership pin on April 17, 2003. He was also a life member of the Angelica Hose Co., and the Angelica Conservation Club. He was a member of the Sullivan Smith Memorial Band and has the distinction of having played trumpet on the night of January 27, 1923 to celebrate the first electric to be turned on in Angelica. Bus also enjoyed hunting, fishing and observing wildlife.

He is survived by one daughter Marilyn (Dean) Scott of Belfast, one son, Hartley (Sally) Maxson of Angelica, two grandsons, one granddaughter and three nieces and two nephews.

He was predeceased by a grandson Bradley Scott, four sisters Winifred Potter, Bessie Rauber, Reva Brundage and Donna (Babe) Studier.

The family will be present to receive friends Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Brown and Powers Funeral Home, 101 West Ave., Angelica, where a Masonic Service will be held at 6 p.m. with funeral services to follow. Burial will be at The Until the Day Dawn Cemetery, Angelica.
