SENATOR TELLER DEAD.

Attended School at Rushford Where He Got Trusted for a Suit of Clothes

Henry M. Teller, died the home of his daughter, Mrs. G.E. Tyler, in Denver, Col., Monday, after an illness of two years, aged 84.

Mr. Teller was born in Granger, this county, in 1820, and received his early education at the Rushford Academy. He also attended school at Alfred and practiced law at Binghamton some time. He went to Illinois in 1858 and when he went he wore a suit of clothes for which he had asked Washington White, a clothier of Rushford to trust him. He told Mr.White he would pay for them when he got settled in the west, which he did. In 1861, he went to Colorado and in 1862 he married Harriett Bruce of Allegany county. He was U.S. Senator from Colorado for many years and also served as Secretary of the Interior under President Arthur, but he left that office in 1885 to re-enter the Senate. Two sons and a daughter [survive].
