PRENTICE BURDICK
Prentice Burdick was born in Hornell, March 25th 1843, and died at his home in Elm Valley, March 13th, after a short illness, from pneumonia and heart failure, aged 73 years. Mr. Burdick came with his parents to Elm Valley when he was about 14 years of age and has always resided in and around Elm Valley. In the year 1871 he married Miss Mary Hincher and to them were born three children, all of whom are living.
Mr. Burdick was a well-to-do farmer and was well and favorably known in this part of the country. When the little chapel was built in Elm Valley a few years ago Prentice Burdick and his brother, Lester, were very much interested in the enterprise and contributed liberally of their time and means to the building of the chapel. Prentice Burdick was elected trustee and held that office until the time of his departure. He was much interested in the work of the chapel and was always found in his place supporting the services of the chapel by his faithful attendance, his means and his gift of singing.
Funeral services were held at the home on Thursday at 2 p.m. and was largely attended, Rev. V. L. Eggleston officiating.
Mr. Burdick leaves a large circle of relatives, friends and neighbors to mourn the loss. Besides the widow he leaves three sons, Charles E. Burdick, Curtis H. Burdick, and Jay Prentice Burdick, all of Elm Valley. Also two brothers and two sisters; Harrison Burdick of Elm Valley and Stillman Burdick of West Virginia; Mrs. Augusta Hincher of Andover, NY; and Mrs. Amelia Scott of Almond, NY.
The Ladies Aid Society of Elm Valley furnished some of the flowers and others were furnished by the relatives and friends. Interment at Valley Brook Cemetery.
