Obituary for Phyllis M. Dickerson

PHYLLIS M. DICKERSON, 75, of 38 N. Highland Avenue passed away on Saturday January 10, 2004 at JonesMemorialHospital in Wellsville. She was born February 29, 1928 in Alma the daughter of Lawrence “Clyde” and Iva (Messler) Shields. On September 7, 1946 in Alma she married Orville T. Dickerson who predeceased her on August 12, 1984. Phyllis was a long time resident of Alma and had attended school in Alma and Wellsville. She and her husband owned & operated the Alma Store in the 50’s and she was the first female bus driver forWellsvilleCentralSchool from 1957 to 1982. She also operated Phyllis’s House of Ceramics in Alma, taught cake decorating and candy making at BOCES in Belmont and was known for making specialty cakes. She was a very active member of the AlmaUnitedMethodistChurch and was instrumental in keeping the church open. She was a member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family. She is survived by 6 children, Sally (David) Plants of Kittanning, PA, Sue (Glenn Clark) Winicki of Cuba, Steve (Karen) Dickerson Sr. of Alma, Sherry (Bill Sr.) Day of Wellsville, Sabra (Kurt) McCarty of Davenport, FL. and Sylvia (Steve) LaChance of Wellsville, 17 grandchildren. 17 great grandchildren, 5 brothers, Lawrence (Dorothy) Shields of Bradford, PA, Francis (Marge) Shields of Portville, Richard (Joyce) Shields of Bolivar, James (Bobbie) Shields of Alma and Robert (Nell) Shields of Alma as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 1 sister, Virginia Shields in 1927. Friends are invited to call on MONDAY from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 and 9:00 pm and TUESDAY from noon to 2:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in WELLSVILLE. The funeral will follow visitation on Tuesday January 13, 2004 at 2:00 pm. in the funeral home with Donna Sturdevant, presiding. Burial will be in SunnysideCemetery in Alma and memorial suggestions include the Alma Volunteer Fire Company Steve Dickerson P.O. Box 1-4 Alma, NY. 14708
