ALLEGANY -

Ailene Dunshie of 67 N. Third St. passed away unexpectedly Saturday (April 24, 2010) at her home.
Born July 31, 1921, at the present site of the Alma Church, she was the daughter of Chris and Ethel Taylor Gorton. She married Norman Dickerson, who predeceased her in April 1983. In January 1989, she married Howard C. Dunshie, who graduated with her from Wellsville High School in 1938.
She worked hard all of her life and was first employed at the Allegany Market Basket (now Park & Shop) and later for the former St. Francis Hospital and the former Portville Handle. Ailene was a woman who accepted what life dealt her with perseverance and grace.
Given the name of “Weiner” as a young girl, she is still known to many by this name. She sewed her first dress at the age of 8, beginning a long love of sewing and quilting. She loved fresh flowers, but the most special flowers to her were from her grandchildren.
Surviving, besides her husband, are her children, David (Kat) Dickerson of Olive Branch, Miss., Judy (Bill) Capozzi of Allegany, Thomas (Glenda) Dickerson of Alma, Howard E. Dunshie of Mississippi, Gayle (Sam) Speta of Friendship, and Ann (Steve) Butts of Cincinnati, Ohio; loved by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her first husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Doris Crandall; a brother, Paul Gorton; and two grandsons, Thomas Jr. and Alec.
Friends will be received from 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, at which time funeral services will begin. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 95, Allegany, NY, or to the Alma Methodist Church.
