According to Houghton College, this is "a view looking up Seminary Hill at Houghton Wesleyan Seminary's original building, nicknamed 'Old Sem.' District Schoolhouse #6 is on the right, the Leonard Houghton farmhouse and barn are on the left, and the Seminary principal's house is behind 'Old Sem.'
