Bennett, Jesse; merchant and postmaster at Short Tract, was born in Granger, December 14th, 1844. His father, John Bennett, was a native of England and came to America in 1830. Mr. Bennett has held the office of assessor in Allen, where he has a farm of eighty-two acres. November 5th, 1865, he married Miss Carrie Snyder, of Granger. During the war Mr. Bennett was in the 104th N.Y. volunteers. He participated in twenty-one battles, and was an inmate of a rebel prison five months.
