Hallsport – Mrs. Betty J. Coats, 60, of Hallsport, died Tuesday (Sept. 4, 1984) at Jones Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born March 24, 1924 in the Town of Willing, she was the daughter of Richard and Alice Scott Billings. On Dec. 27, 1945, in Wellsville she was married to Charles F.A. Coats, who survives. A lifelong resident of Hallsport, she graduated from Wellsville High School in 1940 and attended Rochester Business Institute. She had been employed as a secretary at the Wellsville High School, C-E Air Preheater, and the office of Dr. John R. Scott in Wellsville. She was a member of the Alfred-Almond Bible Church and had been organist in several local churches.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and her mother, are a son, Guy R. Coats of Hallsport; two daughters, Mrs. Debra Scott and Mrs. Darlene Sherwood both of Wellsville; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Eleanor Howe of Stannards and Mrs. Eloise Spice of Wellsville; a brother, Roger Billings of Hallsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Alfred-Almond Bible Church from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, at which time services will be held, Pastor Dan Kenyon officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Hallsport Cemetery arrangements ae under the direction of Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home of Wellsville. Memorials may be made to the Alfred-Almond Bible Church Memorial Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
