ORLO S. GELSER - OBITUARY

Friendship - Orlo S. Gelser of the Byrnes Hill Road passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2011) at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on Feb. 19, 1926, in the Town of Grove, to Arthur S. and Nora M. Dudley Gelser. On July 3, 1948, he married Marleah L. James, who survives.

Orlo was a dairy farmer who later worked outside the farm. He worked for 10 years at the Farwell Feed Mill in Belmont, eight years in the labor union and he retired from the Town of Friendship after working there for 13 years. Orlo enjoyed hunting and was a member of the local laborers union as well as a social member of both the Belmont and Friendship American Legion Posts.

Survivors include three sons, Duane (Terry) Gelser of Dalton, Kenneth (Marsha) Gelser of Scio and Alan Gelser of Wellsville; four daughters, Janet (Allen) Ives of Wellsville, Susan (Garry) Pollock of Portville, Laura (Ricky) Jordan of Belmont, and Christina (Mike) Christian of Holland; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his longtime companion and friend, Donna Layman.

Orlo was predeceased by a son, Ronald Gelser; a sister, Alda Bryon; and a nephew, Marvin Byron.

Friends are invited to call on Friday (Oct. 28, 2011), from noon-2 p.m. at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Belmont. Orlo’s funeral will take place at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Carl Kemp presiding. Burial will take place in Forest Hills Cemetery and memorials in Orlo’s name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
