Death Claims Aged Couple
Mr. and Mrs. J. Fayette Robinson Pass Away Within a few Hours of Each Other.
Death claimed two of Canaseraga’s highly respected residents Monday when Mr. and Mrs. J. Fayette Robinson died within a few hours of each other at their home in this village.
Both were well advanced in years, Mr. Robinson being 82 years of age and his wife just past 83. For some time past Mrs. Robinson had been gradually failing due to the infirmities of her age, and during her illness he was her constant companion insisting upon taking the greatest possible care of her. For some time Mrs. Robinson had been in a semi unconscious condition, but it was only recently that he was compelled to take to his bed with an incipient cold which brought on an attack of heart trouble. Mrs. Robinson passed away Monday morning at four o’clock and although very ill, her faithful husband realized her condition and asked if it were true that she had gone. The aged man insisted on knowing the truth and when it was told him remarked that his work was now finished. He immediately began to fail until the end, which came at 11:30 AM. It had been their lifelong wish that death would come to them at the same time and their prayers were answered. They had been married 63 years, nearly all of which time had been spent in this locality and in the town of Fremont, Steuben County, where they were born.
Besides their three children, Geo H. Robinson, Mrs. J. F. Brownell, and John W. Robinson, all of this place, Mrs. Robinson is survived by one sister, Mrs. A. C. Young of Philadelphia, an he by one brother, Buel Robinson, of Sodus Bay, three sisters, Mrs. Wm Smith of Hornell, Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart of Arkport and Mr. Wm Shirley, of Geneseo
The double funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mr. Brownell and were largely attended. Rev W. H. Robertson officiating. Interment took place in the Canaseraga cemetery.
