Obituary for Lafayette Starkweather

 

Lafayette Starkweather died at his home in Alma at 8:45 o’clock Friday night, May 21, 1926.  He was born in Mexico, New York, April 29, 1817.  He has lived in Port Allegany, Pa., Austin, Pa., and Olean, New York, coming to Alma six years ago.  He was a real estate dealer. 

He was married to Harriett Moot who died September 30, 1911.  In 1917 he married Mrs. Jennie M. Riley who survives.  He is also survived by one daughter and one son, Mrs. Rhoda Webb and Chester Starkweather, both of Los Angeles, California, and one sister, Mrs. Rhoda Manning, also of Los Angeles. 

Mr. Starkweather was a veteran of the Civil War.  He was enrolled December 1, 1864 as a private of Captain Fenton G. Marx (sp?) Company D 93rd regiment of Pennsylvania, Veteran Infantry Volunteers.  He served one year and was honorably discharged June 7, 1865 in Defiance Washington, D.C. 

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception church of Wellsville. 

The funeral will be held from Immaculate Conception church, Monday morning at ten o’clock.  Mnsg. O’Brien officiating.  Interment in Sacred Heart cemetery. 

NOTE:  Mr. Starkweather is buried in an unmarked grave in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville NY.
